Adding Background Music to Your Video
The right background track can completely transform how a video feels. PublishFi includes a built-in music library you can browse, preview in real time, and add to your timeline in a single click — no separate downloads or uploads required.
Opening the Music tab
In the editor, look for the audio panel icon in the right-side panel. Click it to open the audio panel. The panel opens to the Music tab by default, which is where the full track library lives. You will also see tabs for SFX, Voiceover, and a bookmark icon — all part of the same panel.
Browsing and searching for tracks
At the top of the Music tab is a search bar. You can type a track title, artist name, genre, or mood — or leave it empty to scroll through the full library. Results load automatically as you type.
Each result row shows the track's title, artist, genre, mood tags, duration, and BPM. Below that, a waveform visualization gives you a sense of the audio shape before you even press play.
Tip: If you want to narrow the results to a specific style, tempo, or key before browsing, open the filters — see Searching and Filtering the Music Library for a full walkthrough.
Previewing a track
Click the play button on any track row to preview it directly in the panel. The waveform becomes interactive — click anywhere on it to jump to that position in the track. Only one track plays at a time, so switching to another preview automatically stops the current one.
If a track supports individual stem files (separate layers like drums or bass), you can expand it to preview each stem independently before deciding which layer to add.
Adding a track to the timeline
When you find a track you want to use:
- Position your playhead in the timeline at the moment where you want the music to begin.
- Click the + button on the right side of the track row.
The track is placed on your music track in the timeline, starting at the current playhead position. Music clips appear in green on the timeline, making them easy to distinguish from other audio types.
Working with music clips on the timeline
Once a clip is on the timeline, you have full control over its placement:
- Reposition — drag the clip left or right to change when it starts.
- Trim — drag either edge inward to shorten the clip from the beginning or end.
- Delete — right-click the clip and choose Delete to remove it.
To use a different track, add the new one and remove the original, or overlap them if you want both to play simultaneously.
Tip: If you find a track you want to reuse in future projects, bookmark it from the three-dot menu on the track row. Bookmarked tracks are always a click away from the Bookmarks tab. See Bookmarking Audio for details.
