Navigating with the transcript
The transcript panel is not just a place to delete content — it is also a navigation tool. Every word is a direct link to a moment in your footage, and you can use selections to give CoDirector precise context about what was said and when.
Click any word to jump to that moment
Clicking a word in the transcript instantly moves the video playback position to the start of that word. The preview updates to show the frame at that exact moment, and the word you clicked gains a highlighted border to mark your current position in the transcript.
This makes it fast to seek to specific moments in a recording by what was said rather than by time code. Instead of dragging a playhead or estimating a position on the timeline, you simply read through the transcript and click the word you want to hear.
Gaps between words work the same way. Clicking a gap indicator positions the playhead at the boundary just after the preceding word, so you can hear exactly what the silence between two phrases sounds like in context.
The cursor tracks as your video plays
When your video is playing, the transcript cursor follows along. The word corresponding to the current playback position is highlighted so you can always see, at a glance, where you are in the spoken content. This is useful when reviewing a longer recording — you can watch the video while reading along, and the transcript keeps pace without any manual interaction.
Selecting words for CoDirector
You can select a range of words in the transcript by clicking and dragging. As you drag, the selected words highlight as a block. When you release the mouse, a small toolbar appears above your selection. Among the tools in that toolbar is the CoDirector icon — a circular icon on the right side of the bar.
Clicking the CoDirector icon in the toolbar sends your selected text to CoDirector as a transcript mention. CoDirector opens (if it was not already open) with your selection attached as a reference. The attached mention includes the selected words, the clip they came from, and the exact time range in the video.
This is useful when you want to ask CoDirector a question or give it an instruction that relates to a specific thing that was said. For example:
- Selecting a rambling sentence and asking CoDirector to suggest a tighter way to cut it
- Highlighting a section and asking whether it should come before or after another part of the video
- Pointing CoDirector at a specific phrase so it understands the context of what you are asking
To add a transcript selection to CoDirector:
- Click and drag across the words you want to reference in the transcript panel.
- In the toolbar that appears above your selection, click the CoDirector icon.
- CoDirector opens with your selected text already attached as a mention.
- Type your message. CoDirector will respond with the selected transcript as context.
Tip: Transcript mentions give CoDirector specific information — the exact words, the clip name, and the time range — which leads to more focused and accurate responses than a general question about your video.
