Importing media from a URL

If your source video is already published online, you do not need to download it and re-upload it. PublishFi can import media directly from a URL — you paste a link, and PublishFi handles the rest. This saves time, avoids re-encoding, and lets you work with content from platforms you use every day.

Supported platforms

PublishFi's URL import dialog supports the following sources:

  • YouTube — standard video links (youtube.com/watch or youtu.be short links)
  • Rumble — embed links from Rumble videos
  • Loom — share or embed links from Loom recordings
  • Twitch — video links (twitch.tv/videos/...), clip links (clips.twitch.tv/...), and channel clip links (twitch.tv/channel/clip/...)
  • Podcasts — Apple Podcasts episode links, direct MP3 file URLs, and RSS feed URLs

How to open the import dialog

The URL import button appears in any upload area where you add source media to a project. Look for the link icon — clicking it opens the Import Media from URL dialog.

You will find this button:

  • In the prompt bar when creating or adding to a project
  • In the Files tab of the left sidebar while inside the editor

How to import a YouTube video

  1. Copy the URL of the YouTube video you want to import. It should look like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=... or https://youtu.be/....
  2. Open the URL import dialog and make sure the YouTube tab is selected.
  3. Paste the URL into the input field and click outside the field to validate it.
  4. A preview of the video will appear so you can confirm you have the right one.
  5. Click Submit to add it to your project.

How to import from Rumble

  1. Navigate to the Rumble video and copy its embed link. The link should start with https://rumble.com/embed/....
  2. Open the URL import dialog and select the Rumble tab.
  3. Paste the embed link into the input field and click outside to validate.
  4. Confirm the preview and click Submit.

How to import from Loom

  1. Open your Loom video and copy the share link. It will look like https://www.loom.com/share/....
  2. Open the URL import dialog and select the Loom tab.
  3. Paste the link, confirm the preview, and click Submit.

How to import from Twitch

Twitch supports three link formats:

  • Full video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1234567890
  • Clip (short link): https://clips.twitch.tv/ClipName
  • Clip (channel link): https://www.twitch.tv/channelname/clip/ClipName

Open the URL import dialog, select the Twitch tab, paste any of these link formats, confirm the preview, and click Submit.

How to import a podcast

  1. Open the URL import dialog and select the Podcasts tab.
  2. Choose a sub-format:
    • Apple — paste an Apple Podcasts episode link (e.g. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/...?i=...)
    • Link — paste a direct MP3 URL or an RSS feed URL
  3. Paste your link, wait for validation, and click Submit.

The Link option accepts a variety of direct audio sources, including feeds from Buzzsprout, Libsyn, Simplecast, Megaphone, Anchor, and SoundCloud, among others.

What happens after you import

Once submitted, the URL is added to your source media list. PublishFi processes the link in the background. When processing is complete, the file is ready to use — you can reference it in the prompt bar when generating clips, or drag it directly onto the timeline in the editor.

If the imported video is longer than two minutes, a trim dialog will appear so you can select the specific portion you want to work with.

Tip: YouTube imports work best with standard video links. Playlist links, age-restricted videos, and some private videos may not import correctly. If a link fails, try copying the direct video URL from the browser address bar instead.
