Password-protecting links

If you are sharing a video that is not yet ready for the public — a rough cut for internal review, a pre-release deliverable for a client, or a private production — you can require a password before anyone can access the download page. Password protection is set when you create the export link and is visible at a glance in your list of active links.

Adding a password to a new link

  1. Open the Share popover from the editor toolbar and switch to the Export tab.
  2. Click Create Export Link.
  3. Configure your platform selection and quality settings as normal.
  4. Find the Password Protection field near the bottom of the form. Type the password you want to require. Leave the field empty if you do not need a password.
  5. Click Create Link.

When the link is password protected, a lock badge labeled Password appears on that entry in the Active Export Links list. This makes it easy to see at a glance which links are secured and which are open.

What the recipient sees

When a recipient opens a password-protected link, they are prompted to enter the password before they can view or download the video. The password is not embedded in the link URL itself, so you need to share it separately — for example, in a follow-up email or direct message.

When to use password protection

Password protection is most useful when the video is:

  • In client review — keep a rough cut private until feedback has been incorporated.
  • Pre-release — share a video with a specific group before a public launch without risking early leaks.
  • Internal only — restrict downloads to team members who have been given the password directly.

Changing or removing a password

Password protection is configured at the moment a link is created and cannot be modified afterwards. If you need to share the same content without a password, or with a different password, revoke the existing link and create a new one with the updated settings.

Tip: When distributing a password to multiple people, consider how you send it. Avoid including the password in the same message as the link — sending them separately adds a meaningful layer of security for sensitive deliverables.
