Supported platform formats
Auto Frame organizes its frame library into two categories: standard frames and platform-specific frames. Both are available inside the Auto Frame panel, and you can load any combination into a single project.
Standard frames
Standard frames are generic aspect ratios with no platform association. They are the best choice when you want to target a particular shape without worrying about platform-specific overlays — or when you need a format that isn't covered by the platform presets.
| Frame | Aspect ratio | |-------|-------------| | Wide | 16:9 | | Vertical | 9:16 | | Square | 1:1 | | Portrait | 4:5 | | Tall | 2:3 |
Wide (16:9) is the default frame for new projects and the standard format for most cameras, desktop browsers, and YouTube. Vertical (9:16) fills the full screen on a phone held upright — the basis of short-form video on most social platforms. Square (1:1) works consistently across feeds and is a reliable neutral format when you're unsure of final placement. Portrait (4:5) is taller than square and occupies more screen space in a social feed without going fully vertical. Tall (2:3) sits between Portrait and Vertical and is suited to Pinterest-style layouts.
Platform-specific frames
Platform-specific frames are preset to the exact dimensions each platform recommends for a given content type. They also include safe zone overlays — visual guides that show where the platform's own interface elements (buttons, captions, profile pictures, navigation bars) will appear on top of your video when it's live. This lets you check your edit is composed correctly before you export.
| Platform | Aspect ratio | |----------|-------------| | YouTube Post | 16:9 | | YouTube Short | 9:16 | | LinkedIn Post | 4:5 | | LinkedIn Ad | 4:5 | | LinkedIn Vertical | 9:16 | | Instagram Story | 9:16 | | Instagram Post | 4:5 | | Instagram Reel | 9:16 | | X (Twitter) Post | 1:1 | | TikTok Post | 9:16 | | Facebook Story | 9:16 | | Facebook Post | 1:1 | | Threads Video | 9:16 | | Pinterest Standard | 2:3 | | Snapchat Story | 9:16 | | Snapchat Video | 9:16 | | Spotify Clip | 9:16 | | Reddit Ad | 4:5 |
Tip: Even when a platform-specific frame shares an aspect ratio with a standard frame — for example, both TikTok Post and Vertical are 9:16 — they behave differently in the editor. The platform preset activates safe zone guides and enables the Platform Interface Preview toggle, letting you see where that platform's UI will overlap your video. Standard frames do not include this. See Understanding safe zones for details on how to use that preview.
You can load as many frames as you need simultaneously. Only the frames you select at export time will be rendered into output files.
